Family life changes quietly. The toddler who reaches for your hand will soon insist on doing everything alone. The gap-toothed smile will disappear. Your children will outgrow the way they curl into your lap, chase one another through the grass, and laugh without worrying about who is watching.

Your session will include a thoughtful mixture of natural interaction, meaningful details, and beautifully guided portraits. The result is a gallery that reflects not only what your family looked like during this season, but how it felt to be together.

Beautiful Photographs Do Not Require Perfectly Behaved Children


Your children do not need to sit still, smile on command, or behave perfectly for us to create beautiful photographs.


They are welcome to move, explore, play, and warm up at their own pace. I will gently guide your family when direction is helpful, while also watching for the expressions and interactions that happen naturally between you.


We may walk, play a game, cuddle, explore the location, or take a break when someone needs one. The goal is not to force perfection. It is to create space for your family’s real personalities and relationships to come through.

You simply need to arrive as you are. I will take care of the rest.

A relaxed family session begins with thoughtful preparation.

Before your session, you will receive guidance to help you choose a location, coordinate clothing, and prepare your family. I will learn more about your children, the relationships you most want documented, and any details that are especially meaningful to you.


During the session, I will guide you through a mixture of:

  • The entire family together
  • Parents with their children
  • Siblings together
  • Each child individually
  • Parents as a couple
  • Natural interactions and meaningful details


You will never be expected to arrive knowing what to do. I will guide you with simple prompts and gentle direction so your photographs feel polished without feeling stiff or overly posed.

FAQ

What happens if my children do not cooperate?

That is completely normal. Children are allowed to move, explore, take breaks, and warm up at their own pace.

Rather than expecting them to perform for the camera, I use gentle prompts, movement, play, and interaction to create natural expressions. Some of the most meaningful photographs happen during the imperfect in-between moments.

How far in advance should we schedule?

I recommend reaching out several months in advance, especially if you are hoping for a summer or fall evening. Weekend dates and peak autumn sessions tend to fill first.

Occasional short-notice openings may be available, so it is always worth asking.

Where will our session take place?

Sessions are held at thoughtfully selected outdoor locations throughout Michigan’s Thumb. I encourage your family to consider meaningful locations that are special to them. But I'm happy to help you choose a location based on the season, the ages of your children, the scenery you prefer, and the overall feeling you want for your photographs.

Will you help us choose what to wear?

Yes. You will receive guidance to help you coordinate colors, textures, and clothing without making everyone look overly matched.

The goal is for your outfits to feel cohesive, comfortable, and true to your family while photographing beautifully together.

What is included in our session?

Your experience includes planning guidance, location and wardrobe recommendations, gentle posing and direction, professional photography coverage, and a personally curated online gallery of high-resolution, hand-edited images with personal printing rights.

The exact session length and gallery details will depend on the experience you choose.

When will we receive our gallery?

Your complete gallery will be delivered within the timeframe included in your session agreement, typically about 3-4 weeks.

Because every image is personally reviewed and hand-edited, your gallery is given the time and attention needed to ensure it feels cohesive and complete.

Are our images personally edited?

Yes. I personally select and hand-edit every image included in your final gallery. I do not use AI to choose or edit your photographs.

Can grandparents or extended family join us?

Sessions beginning at $475 are designed for one immediate family.

When grandparents, adult siblings, cousins, or multiple households are participating, an extended-family session is recommended. These sessions include additional time and planning so we can document both the full group and the smaller relationships within it.

What happens if the weather is poor?

I closely monitor the forecast before outdoor sessions.

If the weather is unlikely to photograph well or safely, we will work together to choose a reschedule date. Cloudy skies and light wind are often completely workable, so decisions are made based on the actual conditions rather than the forecast alone.

Do you offer shorter sessions?

Limited Edition Sessions are offered on select dates throughout the year at preselected seasonal locations.

These shorter sessions are a wonderful option for families who want an updated collection of photographs without the length or customization of a full family experience.
