Authentically capturing this sweet time for you is something I'm truly passionate about. Having two littles of my own, I remember how wonderful, crazy and fast those first days home with your newborn babe go by. How the memory of a special onesie, the wrappers from the granola bars that kept you fueled through all hours or how you could fit their whole body in your forearm can come flooding back with a simple reminder. It's those details and the interaction between family members, the real ones that make up this season of life that I want to capture for you, all in the comfort of your own home.

My newborn sessions are done in-home as a relaxed, lifestyle shoot to document this special time in an authentic way. I'll come over for about an hour and a half and we'll work around mom and baby's schedule. I'll capture real life moments, with some guidance as needed. I’ll bring a few options if you’d like to use a wrap or fur backdrops for some posed shots of baby (all washed in Dreft). You're welcome to a selection of additional props as well (more for babies coming soon). If you're interested in any, let me know and I'll be sure to bring them along.

Without further ado, here are a few tips to help you plan for your newborn session:

Natural Light

We'll want to shoot both where there's nice light and where you spend most time with your babe (and hopefully those are synonymous).

Full Bellies Are Encouraged

For everyone - but especially for baby! Who isn't happy with a full belly? Try to feed baby up to 30 minutes before your session. Of course if baby needs to be fed during the session, feed baby! If you're breastfeeding and that is something special you'd like captured, please let me know. I never want to make a mama feel uncomfortable if you prefer privacy, but also don't want to miss documenting something special to you.

Bump Up Bath Time

Try giving baby a bath about 30 minutes before your session start time to set a calming mood, or feel free to do it once I arrive if you'd like it documented.

Temperature

Babies like it toasty, especially if we're doing any bare bottom shots. Setting your thermostat over 80° is ideal, at least 78° is recommended.

Clear Your Schedule

It's encouraged that you schedule our session on a day where you don't have any other commitments for a calmer flow.

Minimize guests

To keep baby sleeping and everyone as relaxed as possible, keep the number of guests limited to just those being photographed.

Attention to clutter

Please don't clean for your session! I take care of finding the best natural light in your home, there's no need to have the entire home spotless. However, if there is a particular room you'd like to photograph in (nursery, living room, master bedroom, etc.) please remove excessive background clutter prior to the session.
